Nautical Term: Consolidation
Definition of Consolidation
Consolidation refers to the process of merging multiple shipments from two or more shippers or suppliers into a single, larger shipment. This can be particularly useful for container load shipments, where multiple consignees may be receiving their containers from the same shipment.
For example, consider a container ship that is transporting goods from multiple suppliers in Asia to a consignee in Europe. The consignee has requested that multiple containers from different suppliers be consolidated into a single shipment. This allows the consignee to more easily manage the logistics of receiving and distributing the containers from multiple suppliers.
