Definition of Half deck

A half deck is a term used s to describe a short deck situated between the main deck and the quarterdeck.

For instance, during the late 18th century, many naval warships, such as HMS Victory, were equipped with half decks. These areas provided additional shelter and protection for the ship’s crew during inclement weather conditions or during the heat of battle.
