Nautical Term: Dry docks
Definition of Dry docks
A dry dock is a specialized facility where a vessel is floated and then the water is drained, enabling the ship to be lifted out of the water. This allows for the construction, repair, or maintenance of ships in a dry environment.
For example, The ships in the local fishing fleet required maintenance, so they were taken to the local dry dock. The water was drained from the dock, and then the ships were lifted out of the water using cranes. The repairs and maintenance were then carried out on the ships while they were in the dry dock.
