Nautical Term: Landlubber

Definition of Landlubber

A landlubber is an individual who does not have experience or involvement in naval activities. The term is commonly used among seafaring communities to distinguish between those who spend their lives at sea and those who do not.

For example: During his time as the captain of the merchant vessel, John encountered several landlubbers while in port. These individuals, who had little to no experience on the water, were often in awe of the sailors’ skills and knowledge.
