Nautical Term: Entrance

Definition of Entrance

The ‘Entrance’ of a vessel refers to the underwater section located forward of the ship, specifically near the bow. For instance, when a captain is navigating through a narrow channel with a shallow underwater depth, they must pay close attention to the vessel’s ‘Entrance’ to ensure that the ship’s underwater profile doesn’t exceed the channel’s underwater dimensions and cause damage to the vessel or the channel infrastructure.
