Definition of FDIS

Free Discharge (FDIS) refers to the act of releasing a ship or its cargo from customs control and any related charges without the need for formal entry procedures. For instance, a cargo ship that docks at a port with a high volume of commercial traffic might be granted free discharge, allowing the ship to leave the port without undergoing the lengthy and costly formal entry procedure.
