Definition of LOP

Lines of Position, often abbreviated as LOPs, are specific lines on a navigational chart that help determine a vessel’s position at sea. For instance, if a captain wants to determine the vessel’s position while crossing the English Channel, they would use the LOPs provided on the navigational chart to help estimate their position.
