Nautical Term: Molded line
Definition of Molded line
A datum line used in shipbuilding to determine the precise location of various parts of a vessel. Molded lines are established during the design stage and are adhered to throughout the construction process.
These lines may be horizontal and straight, such as the molded base line, or curved, such as a molded deck line or a molded frame line.
Molded lines are established in the mold loft during the design phase of a vessel’s construction. These lines serve as important references for the shipbuilders, ensuring that each part of the vessel is constructed to the exact specifications established during the design phase.
