Nautical Term: ODME
Definition of ODME
Oil Discharge Monitoring Equipment, commonly referred to as ODME, is a set of instruments used on ships to detect, measure, and report oil discharges into the water. For instance, during a routine voyage, the master of a bulk carrier suspects an oil leak from the engine room. The master then orders the crew to conduct an immediate inspection using ODME to verify the presence of oil discharges and take appropriate corrective actions to prevent further environmental damage.
