Nautical Term: On report
Definition of On report
The term ‘On report’ refers to a situation where a vessel, typically one in distress, has been reported to the Coast Guard or Marine Rescue services. For instance, during a stormy night at sea, the master of a cargo ship, seeing another vessel in peril, swiftly hails the Coast Guard, reporting the location of the distressed vessel and passing on any available information about the vessel and its crew. The Coast Guard then takes immediate action, dispatching rescue assets to the reported location and commencing search and rescue operations to save the lives of those in peril at sea.
