Definition of Tenon

A tenon is the rectangular end section of a wooden piece, designed to fit snugly into a corresponding mortise cavity in another piece of wood. For instance, a wooden beam with a tenon end may be joined with another beam by cutting a mortise cavity in the second beam to receive the tenon end from the first beam.
