Definition of Sole patch

A sole patch is a small plate that is fitted to the top of a foundation or base. Machines or other heavy structures are bolted to this base. Additionally, a sole patch is a small plate that is fitted at the end of a stanchion to provide extra protection and prevent damage to the stanchion.

For example, a sailboat has a sole patch fitted to the base of the engine to securely bolt the engine to the boat. Additionally, the stanchions along the side of the boat have sole patches fitted to their ends to protect the stanchions from damage and wear.
