Nautical Term: TRCF

Definition of TRCF

Total Recorded Case Frequency (TRCF) is a term used in nautical meteorology to represent the total number of recorded meteorological cases, such as cyclones, storms, or squalls, that have occurred within a specific region or time period.

For example, in a monthly meteorological report for the Western Pacific Ocean, the TRCF for tropical cyclones during the month of July could be reported as ‘A total of 5 recorded tropical cyclones were reported in the Western Pacific Ocean during the month of July. The Total Recorded Case Frequency (TRCF) for tropical cyclones during this month was therefore 5.’
