Definition of Knot

A knot is a unit of speed used s. It is equal to one nautical mile per hour, which is approximately 1.852 kilometers per hour or 0.5144 meters per second.

For example, if a ship’s log reads 12 knots, it means that the ship is moving at a speed of 12 nautical miles per hour.
