Definition of Pipe stanchion
A pipe stanchion is a deck fitting made of steel, comprising a vertical post with angled bracket(s) on one side. These brackets are welded to a doubler plate, which in turn is welded onto the deck of a vessel. The pipe stanchion is used to restrain the movement of cargo, such as pipe, by providing a secure point of attachment for securing cords or chains to the cargo.
