Definition of PCGO
Part Cargo, also known as PCGO, refers to a specific type of cargo arrangement in maritime transportation. In a Part Cargo agreement, a vessel carries multiple separate cargoes for different owners. These cargoes are transported as one larger cargo, often referred to as ‘the main.’
For instance, in a single voyage, a cargo ship might carry 500 metric tons of sugar from Brazil to Europe as part of a larger Part Cargo arrangement. This sugar might be destined for several different European buyers, who will each pay the shipper for their share of the cargo.
By using a Part Cargo arrangement, maritime transportation companies can optimize the utilization of their cargo vessels, increase their overall revenue, and better accommodate the diverse shipping requirements of their clients.
