Nautical Term: TSS

Definition of TSS

A Traffic Separation Scheme (TSS) is an international maritime regulation designed to enhance the safety and efficiency of ship traffic by separating opposing streams of vessels using clearly marked lanes. For instance, in a busy shipping lane near the English Channel, the TSS might separate the westbound and eastbound traffic by using distinct lanes marked by buoys and lateral marks.
