Nautical Term: Tween-deck
Definition of Tween-deck
»Tween-deck« refers to an intermediate deck located within the cargo space above the lower hold and below the upper deck.
For instance, a cargo ship may carry bulk grain as its cargo. In such a case, the lower hold would store the grain, while the tween-deck above it might serve as a platform for the loading and unloading of the cargo, or even as a storage area for cargo handling equipment. The upper deck, finally, would be the living quarters and working spaces for the crew.
